Carl MacNeil

Hello, my name is Carl, and I am grateful for an opportunity to practice and continue learning during an internship with the Couch of Hope.

My academic background is in education, obtaining a BA from Saint Mary’s University and a B.Ed. from St. Francis Xavier University, and I am currently completing a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology (MACP) at Yorkville University. During the last 30 years, I have been employed in a variety of occupational roles and look forward to practicing as a counselling therapist.

I utilize an integrative approach to counselling rooted in a combination of theories including psychodynamic, humanist, and cognitive. This provides a basis for the models of intervention I apply in session by blending forms of positive psychology, narrative therapy, strength-based therapy, and cognitive processing, as well as others. As your counsellor, I can assure you’ll receive unconditional positive regard and empathy, and will always be treated with dignity.

Areas of personal interest in counselling practice for myself include the treatment of trauma, depression, and anxiety-related disorders, addiction & substance misuse, and family matters & relational wellness.
