Taylor Armstrong

Hello, my name is Taylor (she/her). I am a student completing my Master of Arts degree in Counselling Psychology via Yorkville University, and am very excited to be completing my internship with the Couch of H.O.P.E. program.

Prior to beginning my studies at Yorkville I graduated from the University of Western Ontario with an Honours Specialization in Psychology. My honours thesis project explored women’s responses to sexual media from a feminist perspective. Sexual health and well-being remain an interest of mine, specifically the ways individuals may increase their sense of empowerment in this area.

In the five years since I graduated from the University of Western Ontario I have been employed in shelters, supporting individuals who are experiencing homelessness. Throughout this time I have worked with men and women, as well as youth experiencing poverty, members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, folks living with disabilities, newcomers to Canada, and individuals who use substances. I am passionate about supporting and advocating for individuals navigating systematic barriers. My work with the unhoused population in Halifax has been a driving force behind my desire to pursue a career in counselling.

My studies, and professional experience have fostered within me a stance of “not knowing”. I have a client-centred approach, which means I believe all individuals are the experts on their own lives. My intention as a counsellor is to walk alongside my clients so that together we can create meaning from their experiences and explore new possibilities. I hope to provide my clients a safe space where they can share their story without fear of judgment or criticism.

My therapeutic areas of interest include but are not limited to: trauma, addiction, anxiety, depression, and relational health.

I look forward to working with you!
