Neil Silcox

Hello, my name is Neil (he/they).

I love stories. For over 20 years, I’ve worked as a theatre artist and arts educator, creating stories and holding space for the stories of the people around me. Through this work, I’ve developed a great love of hearing people tell me about their journeys through life.

Storytelling is also central to my counselling, through an approach called Narrative Therapy. Narrative Therapy focuses on how the stories we tell ourselves about who we are, impact our health and happiness. I take a strong anti-oppression stance and recognize that much of our pain comes from living in really broken systems.

I’m a white, cisgender, hetero man. I bring knowledge of, and love for, folks from across the queer, gender, and aroace spectrums – and have been training specifically in queer- and trans-affirming mental healthcare as part of my current Masters training at Acadia University. I’m also very interested in the ways in which the pressures of stereotypical masculinity harm everyone, including men and boys.

I look forward to talking to you about anxiety, grief, depression, discrimination, relationships, stress & burnout, artistry, self-image, or anything else that is on your mind.

Take care,

Neil
