Nora-Jane Smith

Hello, and thank you for taking a moment to learn a bit about me.

My name is Nora-Jane Smith (she/her). I was born and raised along the beautiful coast of Nova Scotia. I obtained my Psychology degree from Saint Mary’s University, and I am currently completing my Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology at Yorkville University. I am extremely grateful to be working at Couch of Hope during my internship and look forward to using, and expanding, the skills I have studied while at Yorkville.

I have a great deal of experience working with clients who have experienced various traumas and clients who have battled addiction. I understand the importance of feeling safe and supported while attending therapy; I aim to create a welcoming environment where you are supported and empowered. I will offer a non-judgemental and empathetic ear as you bravely tell me your story.

My areas of therapeutic interest include but are not limited to anxiety, depression, OCD, trauma recovery, addiction, and burnout. I work mostly through a cognitive-behavioural lens though each client’s treatment is tailored to them. I often incorporate elements of solution-focused therapy, person-centered therapy, and Adlerian therapy into treatment.

While I cannot erase the difficult times in your life, I can help you find the strength to move forward and walk beside you on the path to healing. Together, we will explore techniques to build resilience to current stressors and the hardships you may face in the future. You are the expert in your life and your healing, and I will help you navigate your way through problems in a positive, healthy manner.

Beginning therapy is a big step, and I commend you for taking the time to learn what Couch of Hope can offer you.

I look forward to working with you!
