Welcome to my profile.
My name is Rashida (she/her), and I am pleased to be a Counselling Therapist Intern at Couch of Hope. I completed a BA in English at Saint Mary’s University and a B.Ed in secondary education from Mount Saint Vincent University. I am currently a M.Ed in Counselling student at Acadia University. I grew up in Nova Scotia, as a Historic Black Nova Scotian who also has Indigenous ancestry. I am an educator, writer, and mentor. I started my work by connecting with youth in my community, teaching them about history, culture, and self awareness. I later expanded my efforts to include working with adults individually and through group empowerment sessions.
My approach to counselling includes promoting a safe space to explore your various needs around mental health, awareness, and emotional well-being. I believe great transformation can occur when we are made aware of the tools we need to do the healing work. Sometimes our tools are self-made, and sometimes they are presented to us through enduring members of our support systems.
My practice is person-centred, solution-focused, and considerate of the narratives that are created throughout the course of our lives. My work is inclusive and mindful of diverse backgrounds and experiences. I am committed to being a supportive presence during our time together.
